Workshop on bird strikes risk reduction for civil aviation
Thursday, 08 April 2010 14:14

In civil aviation the major risk from bird strikes is at or near airports with 90% of impacts occurring during takeoff, landing and associated phases. The economic cost of bird strikes due to damage and delays to commercial aircraft has been estimated to be in excess of $1Bn annually.

On behalf of the European Space Agency (ESA), Helios is organising a workshop on 28 April 2010 to better understand the aviation industry’s needs and requirements for operational services to address the bird strike challenge.

The event will take place at the UK CAA Safety Regulation Group near London Gatwick Airport.

The workshop will enable stakeholders from across the aviation industry to have their say on the need for − and application of − new services and technologies to address the challenge.
